A File Box for Kids’ Keepsakes

I love the idea/solution put forth in The Happiness Project to the never-ending question of what to do with our kids’ stuff.

This article specifically deals with what to do with the cute invitations you make/select every year for their birthdays; family invites for parties they attend; class photos, etc. Gretchen’s solution is a file box (make it a cute one, I say) with each year labeled.  Here’s a part of the article:

“Then I had a fantastic idea. File boxes. . . . . I fitted [both my daughters] out with a pack of files. I labeled the first file “Baby” and put in some baby memorabilia – birth announcement, invitation to the first birthday. Then I made a folder for each year of school. I only include a few samples of schoolwork, because I want to limit these files to special items. When the girls are older, I’ll include report cards, school programs, and the like.

I get a little thrill every time I see these boxes. They’re such a great solution to a problem: now it’s easy to put these mementos away; the boxes are very compact and organized; they’ll make great keepsakes for the girls when they’re older. How fun, when you’re fifty years old, to be able to look back at the birthday invitation you sent out when you turned seven!” quote from The Happiness Project, Gretchen Rubin

If you think you might do this check out these file boxes and folders from Semikolon and also some cute ones from Target!

I’d love to hear your ideas for storing such keepsakes!

Today is Fun

Today is Fun is a, dare I say it, “fun” website with great ideas to entertain your kids and “keep your sanity” .

I promise you’ll find a good idea — like the “characteristics” game — for those days you are simply out of ideas (even if that’s every day).

kidmodern

A friend of mine recently had a baby girl and she included some wonderful kidmodern art by Gale Kaseguma, including this jellybean tree, in the nursery.  I just love it! So happy, so fresh and so lovely!

Desk and Storage

This desk and storage (first spotted on How About Orange) made by Adesso Stockholm is sold at Wal-Mart and has great reviews!  It is also now on sale ! This would look great in a child’s room or a mom’s office. Check out Jessica’s office  from How About Orange to see how nice a splash of orange can look in a home office setting.

Splatter On-line

Today, I wanted to share with you something that’s just plain fun (you can show your kids too if you like).    I have seen a lot of things recently about making art projects with your kids that are along the lines of a Jackson Pollock painting — you know, splatter painting, right? So, I was getting ready to take on such a project and was waiting for a perfect day outside to splatter ( I just could not agree to splatter inside) when I received an email about this site: JacksonPollock.org !  B

It’s great!  You can create a masterpiece at your computer — no mess but still lots of fun! A great tension-breaker as well when you need a quick break.

We may still do the “real paint” thing one day, but for now this works great! My son has created 3 masterpieces that he has chosen to keep in his “office” (a table and chair). He even calls them “jackson pollocks”.  I love it!

Wild Aid

I normally don’t write about hair care products, because, really, how lovely can they be?  But, I really love the new line David Babaii for Wild Aid.  Yes, I may have fallen for it because it is used, and promoted, by Kate Hudson and I wish I had her hair, but I actually love it. It smells great and seems to be great for my hair.  And 10% of the profits are donated to WildAid, the global wildlife conservation organization.

You can find it on drugstore.com as well (free shipping on $25 or more), but for the detailed product descriptions go to David Babaii for Wild Aid .
